Lewis Hamilton Eyes KTM MotoGP Investment as Brand Rebuilds

KTM, currently navigating financial restructuring following bankruptcy, is exploring potential investments in its MotoGP team, with seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton emerging as a key contender.

KTM Motorsports Director Pit Beirer confirmed “concrete discussions” with Hamilton’s management regarding an investment in the team. This move aligns with Hamilton’s broader ambition to increase diversity in sports ownership, particularly in motorsports where he remains the sole Black driver at the highest level.

“In Formula 1, there is no diversity in ownership; it is currently owned only by white men,” Hamilton stated. “I would like to be part of that.”

Hamilton’s interest in MotoGP extends beyond investment. He has previously expressed a desire to establish his own team in the series, recognizing the sport’s potential for growth.

KTM, seeking to stabilize its road racing program amidst financial pressures, is actively seeking outside investment. While the company maintains a strong partnership with Red Bull, Beirer confirmed that Hamilton’s potential involvement with Ferrari, a key Red Bull competitor, has not been a significant obstacle in the ongoing negotiations.

The 2025 MotoGP season kicks off on February 28th in Thailand, marking the beginning of a new chapter for KTM as it seeks to navigate its financial challenges and explore new avenues for growth.
