Toyota’s Hilux Transformed into a 7-Seater SUV

Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV Concept

Toyota’s iconic Hilux pickup truck is getting a unique twist in Indonesia. A local conversion company, New Armada, has transformed the Hilux into a 7-seater SUV, and Toyota Astra Motor, the official distributor in Indonesia, will be selling this unconventional vehicle.

A Boxy Design with a Purpose

While the front end retains the familiar Hilux look, the rear half of the vehicle has been completely redesigned. The boxy shape and large windows give the SUV a distinctive appearance. The rear section, with its vertical taillights and large tailgate, further emphasizes its utilitarian nature.

Spacious Interior, Limited Boot Space

Inside, the SUV offers a 2+3+2 seating configuration, providing ample space for up to seven passengers. However, the addition of the third-row seats compromises the boot space, which may be a drawback for some buyers.

Powertrain Options

The Hilux SUV will be available with two engine options: a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and a 2.4-liter turbo-diesel engine. Both engines will be paired with either a manual or automatic transmission, and power will be sent to the rear wheels.

Pricing and Availability

The Toyota Hilux SUV is expected to be priced competitively, starting at under Rp400,000,000 ($25,000). It will be available in Indonesia in early 2025. While there’s no official word on whether this unique vehicle will be offered in other markets, it certainly piques interest and showcases the versatility of the Hilux platform.
