A wave of mysterious drone sightings across multiple states in the United States has sparked a flurry of conspiracy theories on social media. The unusual activity, which reportedly began in November near Morris County, New Jersey, has since spread to areas including Massachusetts, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. While US authorities, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), have dismissed any significant threat, speculation continues to grow online, with many linking the incidents to a decades-old conspiracy theory known as Project Blue Beam.
First proposed in the 1990s by Canadian journalist Serge Monast, Project Blue Beam alleges that global elites plan to stage fake extraterrestrial invasions or supernatural events to impose a totalitarian world government. Proponents of this theory claim that advanced holographic technology would be used to display images of religious figures or alien forces in the sky, creating the illusion of direct divine communication. The ultimate goal, according to believers, would be to manipulate human thought and justify authoritarian control.

The resurfacing of Project Blue Beam theories gained momentum when right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones referenced it on social media. Jones, known for spreading misinformation, shared an interview with ufologist Steven Greer, claiming the theory could be used to deceive the public.

Trump Calls for Action on Drone Sightings
Amid growing speculation, President-elect Donald Trump weighed in on the mysterious sightings, calling for immediate action. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump questioned the government’s awareness of the issue and suggested taking drastic measures.
“Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge? I don’t think so,” Trump stated. “Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!! DJT,” he added.
Government Denies Threat from Drones
In response to public concern, the US government maintains that the drone sightings do not pose a national security risk. White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby clarified that most reported incidents involved manned aircraft operating lawfully.
“Upon review of available imagery, it appears that many of the reported sightings are actually manned aircraft that are being operated lawfully,” Kirby explained.
