Does running the AC in a car affect mileage? How many kilometers make a difference?

AC In Car: The heat of summer has knocked on the door. In such times, people rely on the AC while traveling in their cars. It’s difficult to get into a car without AC. Therefore, people often turn on the AC before sitting in the car. But often people wonder whether running the AC in the car affects the mileage. Does it really happen? Running the AC reduces the car’s mileage. Let’s find out how true this is.

Running the AC reduces mileage

Often people say that if you run the AC in your car, then your car’s mileage decreases. Actually, this happens because the car’s AC is directly connected to the car’s engine. Running the AC puts more pressure on the engine, which increases fuel consumption.

However, running the AC doesn’t have a significant impact on the car’s mileage. Running the AC reduces the car’s mileage by only 4-5 percent. The impact depends more on where you are driving the car. If you are driving in crowded city areas, you will notice a greater difference, whereas if you are driving on the highway, the difference won’t be as noticeable.

This much mileage is reduced

If your car is giving a mileage of 15 kmpl, running the AC can reduce it to around 13 kmpl. But if you keep the AC running in the parked car for a long time, it will consume more petrol. If you keep the AC running in a 1000cc engine car for 1 hour, it consumes approximately 1 liter of petrol. On the other hand, if you keep starting and stopping the car, it consumes around 1.5 liters. Generally, the difference in mileage depends on how you drive the car and the condition of the car’s engine.
