In a significant move to promote electric vehicle adoption, the Telangana government has announced a 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees for all electric vehicles purchased and registered in the state. This exemption will be valid for two years, until December 31, 2026.

The exemption applies to a wide range of electric vehicles, including two-wheelers, four-wheelers, commercial passenger vehicles (taxis and auto-rickshaws), light goods carriers, tractors, and buses. Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) buses and industry-owned buses used for employee transportation will also benefit from this exemption.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar stated that this decision aims to reduce pollution levels in Hyderabad and make it a cleaner city. The government has learned from the experiences of other states, particularly Delhi, and has implemented a comprehensive EV policy to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.

To further support the EV ecosystem, the government is urging manufacturers to establish charging infrastructure to ensure a seamless user experience. A meeting will be held with relevant departments to coordinate efforts and facilitate the deployment of charging stations.

With this new policy, Telangana aims to accelerate the shift towards electric mobility and contribute to a sustainable future.
