Hyundai Motor North America has announced a significant initiative to enhance the charging experience for its current electric vehicle (EV) owners. Starting in the first quarter of 2025, eligible customers will be able to request a free North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter through the MyHyundai portal.

This complimentary adapter will grant Hyundai EV owners access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, comprising over 20,000 charging stations across the United States.

The program encompasses a wide range of Hyundai EV models, including the 2024 and earlier Kona Electric, Ioniq Hatchback, Ioniq 5, and Ioniq 6. Additionally, the 2025 Ioniq 5 N, 2025 Ioniq 6, and 2025 Kona Electric are also eligible. Notably, the 2025 Ioniq 5 is excluded from this program as it will be the first non-Tesla vehicle to feature a factory-installed NACS port.

Olabisi Boyle, Senior Vice President of Product Planning and Mobility Strategy at Hyundai Motor North America, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “These adapters will significantly enhance charging convenience for our existing EV owners. Furthermore, the integration of NACS ports on future models like the upcoming Ioniq 9, coupled with advancements in our digital charging ecosystem, will further elevate the ownership experience for future EV drivers.”

For those who may lose their adapter or forget to request one, Hyundai will offer the option to purchase replacement adapters through authorized Hyundai dealerships.

This move by Hyundai follows a similar announcement from Kia America, which will provide free NACS adapters to EV6 and EV9 owners early next year, granting them access to the Tesla Supercharger network from January 15th.

Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, has also confirmed its participation in the program. Details regarding the Genesis program will be released in early 2025, but it is expected to benefit owners of the GV60 and electric versions of the GV70 and G80.

This initiative underscores Hyundai’s commitment to enhancing the overall EV ownership experience by expanding charging accessibility and providing greater convenience for its customers.
