Kia has made a significant addition to its Indian lineup with the launch of the EV9 GT line. This flagship electric SUV, priced at ₹1.3 crore, marks Kia’s second electric vehicle offering in the country, following the successful introduction of the EV6.
Designed to cater to more premium audiences while aligning with Kia’s environmental sustainability goals, the EV9 is built on the G-EMP platform, which allows for a flat battery pack placement and a lower center of gravity.
Exterior Design
The EV9 showcases Kia’s “opposites united” design philosophy, blending elements of nature with manufactured components. Its SUV silhouette is accentuated by its 3100mm wheelbase and overall length of 5 meters. With a width of 1980mm and a height of 1755mm, the EV9 stands out as one of the larger SUVs available in India.
The signature tiger face grille, featuring digital pattern lighting DRLs and LED projection headlamps, adds a distinctive touch. Other design elements, such as the sculpted underbody and air curtains on the front bumper, contribute to the EV9’s aerodynamic efficiency, resulting in a coefficient of 0.28. This enhances its performance and range.
Interior and Features
The EV9 offers a luxurious interior with three rows of seating, including captain seats in the second row with eight-way power adjustments and relaxation/massage functions. A dual sunroof provides natural light for both the first and second rows.
The EV9’s infotainment system features a panoramic display that combines a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. A separate 5-inch HVAC control screen is also included. Over-the-air updates ensure that the vehicle’s software remains up-to-date.
Safety features abound, including a 360-degree camera and Level-2 ADAS with 27 autonomous features, such as forward collision warning, blind spot collision warning, high beam assist, safe exit assist, and lane keep/departure assist. The audio system is a premium 14-speaker Meridian system with active sound design.
Battery and Performance
The EV9 is equipped with a 99.8kWh battery pack, providing a claimed range of 561 kilometers according to ARAI testing. The battery supports DC 350kW fast charging, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes.
With a power output of 379 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque, the EV9 delivers impressive performance, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds.
Availability and Pricing
The Kia EV9 is offered in five colors in India: Snow White Pearl, Panthera Metal, Pebble Gray, Aurora Black Pearl, and Ocean Blue. It has been awarded a 5-star safety rating by GNCAP and comes with 10 airbags. Kia positions the EV9 as its most sophisticated vehicle to date, and it was recognized as the World Car of the Year in 2023. The EV9 will also be available with leasing options.
