In a record-breaking time of just 34 months, the Tata Punch has surpassed the 4 lakh sales milestone, solidifying its position as the fastest-selling SUV in the country.

Punching Above Its Weight

Launched in October 2021, the Tata Punch introduced India to the sub-compact SUV segment. Its bold design, commanding presence, and impressive ground clearance have made it a standout in its category. The Punch’s capability extends beyond urban roads. It was one of the first front-wheel-drive SUVs to conquer the challenging peak of Sandakphu, proving its mettle as a true off-roader.

Safety has been a paramount concern for Tata Motors, and the Punch is a testament to this commitment. It was awarded a coveted 5-star GNCAP rating, setting new benchmarks in occupant protection.

A Stellar Sales Journey

The Punch’s success story is nothing short of extraordinary. It achieved the 1 lakh sales milestone in a mere 10 months, followed by the 2 lakh and 3 lakh milestones in subsequent months, demonstrating its consistent popularity.

The introduction of the Punch iCNG in 2023, featuring Tata Motors’ innovative twin-cylinder technology, further expanded the Punch’s appeal. The launch of the Punch.ev in January 2024 brought electrification to the sub-compact SUV segment and broadened the customer base.

Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., expressed his delight at the Punch’s achievement, highlighting Tata Motors’ deep understanding of Indian consumer preferences. He emphasized the Punch’s role in democratizing SUV features and creating a loyal customer base.

Dominating the Sub-Compact SUV Segment

The sub-compact SUV segment has witnessed exponential growth, and the Tata Punch has been at the forefront of this trend. With a dominant 68% market share in FY24, the Punch has outshone its competitors. Innovative features like 90-degree door opening, Electronic Stability Program, Rain Sensing Wipers, and a class-leading ground clearance of 187mm have solidified the Punch’s position as the premier sub-compact SUV.

The Punch.ev has also made a significant impact, contributing to an additional 15% to the overall sales growth. Tata Motors’ revolutionary pure EV architecture, acti.ev, has enabled the Punch.ev to offer long-range, exceptional performance, and advanced technology, challenging misconceptions about electric vehicles.

A Consistent Sales Leader

With a 17.7% market share in the compact SUV segment, the Punch is the highest-selling vehicle across all segments (YTD FY25). Its sales have grown by 27% year-on-year in FY24, making it the top-selling SUV from January to June 2024.
