Mazda is set to unveil a special racing-inspired version of the iconic MX-5 at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon in early January. Alongside this exciting debut, Mazda will showcase two striking racing concepts, each boasting a host of track-focused upgrades.
The highlight of the event will be the Mazda Spirit Racing Special Model, marking the first road-going vehicle from Mazda’s new high-performance division, replacing the former Mazdaspeed brand. The Spirit Racing name has been synonymous with Mazda’s motorsport activities in Japan’s Super Taikyu Series since 2021. While details remain scarce, the Special Model, closely resembling the concept shown at the 2024 Tokyo Motor Show, is expected to feature a revised front fascia with a new splitter and a distinctive grille badge. Striking visual cues include a set of black six-spoke wheels, red brake calipers, redesigned side skirts, and a rear lip spoiler.
While the extent of mechanical upgrades remains undisclosed, enhancements to the suspension and braking systems are highly anticipated.
Joining the Special Model will be the Mazda3 Bio Concept and the Roadster CNF Concept, both of which recently competed in the final round of the Super Taikyu Series at Fuji Raceway. These racing concepts showcase aggressive aerodynamics with towering rear wings, prominent front splitters, and race-ready wheels.
Rounding out the display will be a lifted CX-5 developed in collaboration with Toyo Tires, further demonstrating Mazda’s commitment to performance and innovation.
