Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG Coming Soon: More Power, More Mileage

Maruti Suzuki Swift

Maruti Suzuki recently launched the sporty fourth-generation Swift in the Indian market at a starting price of ₹6.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The company plans to introduce a CNG variant for the 2024 Swift in the coming months.

Design: The new Swift receives several design updates, including a piano-black finish grille, LED projector headlights with DRLs, new LED taillights, a revised front bumper, and lightweight two-tone alloy wheels.

Engine: Under the hood, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift gets a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder K12M Dual Jet gasoline engine that delivers a maximum power of 82 HP and 112 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission as standard, with a five-speed automatic transmission as an option. The fourth-generation Swift is not the first Maruti Suzuki car with a CNG option; however, it’s the first to offer a CNG variant with a K12M engine. It’s expected that the initial launch will focus on the manual transmission CNG variant, with the automatic option coming later.

Mileage: The new Maruti Suzuki Swift offers ARAI mileage figures of 24.80 kmpl for the manual transmission and 25.75 kmpl for the automatic transmission. The CNG variant of the new Swift is expected to deliver a mileage of over 32 km/kg. Prices for the fourth generation Swift start at ₹6.49 lakh and go up to ₹9.64 lakh (both ex-showroom prices). We can expect the Swift 2024 CNG to be priced around ₹90,000 more than the gasoline variants. The company has not yet revealed the specific variants that will be offered with the CNG option.

Competition: Upon launch, the new CNG Swift will face tough competition from the Tata Tiago CNG and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG in the Indian market. The Tata Tiago CNG is currently the only CNG hatchback that comes with a five-speed automatic transmission. It generates 72 HP of power and 95 Nm of torque.
