Spy Photos: Triumph Scrambler 400 X Gets Wheel Option, Cafe Racer Revealed

Triumph Scrambler 400 X

Spy shots have revealed some exciting developments for Triumph’s 400cc lineup. The Scrambler 400 X, launched last year, has been spotted testing with new cross-spoke wheels, suggesting an upcoming accessory option. These wheels offer a blend of spoke wheel flexibility and tubeless tire compatibility, potentially enhancing the Scrambler’s off-road capabilities. While the bike is expected to continue shipping with alloy wheels as standard, existing and new customers should likely have the option to purchase the cross-spoke set. This would make the Scrambler 400 X one of only two motorcycles in its segment in India, alongside the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, to offer this feature. A beak-like front fender extension was also observed on the test mule.

In addition to the Scrambler, a cafe racer based on the Speed 400 has also been spotted looking nearly production-ready. This new model, the fourth from the Bajaj-Triumph partnership (following the Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, and the Speed T4), takes design cues from the Speed Triple 1200 RR. The name of this cafe racer remains to be seen, especially given Triumph’s recent farewell to the “Thruxton” moniker.

The cafe racer shares many components with the Speed 400 but distinguishes itself with clip-on handlebars, bar-end mirrors, a unique single-piece seat, and a redesigned fuel tank. The tail section is also different, featuring a simpler, rectangular taillight and grab rail. The riding position appears more aggressive than the Speed 400, with a forward lean required to reach the clip-ons, although the lower body position seems relatively relaxed.

Powering the cafe racer will likely be the same 398cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine found in the Speed 400, producing around 40hp and 37.5Nm of torque. The cafe racer is expected to launch sometime this year, with pricing likely to fall between the Speed 400 (₹2.40 lakh) and the Scrambler 400 X (₹2.65 lakh).
