The iconic Tata Sierra is making a comeback! A camouflaged prototype of the new Sierra SUV has been spotted testing in India, signaling its anticipated launch in the second half of 2025. This test mule is confirmed to be the internal combustion engine (ICE) version, previously showcased at the Auto Expo 2025. The Sierra, a nameplate with a dedicated following, is set to revive its legacy with a modern and refined approach. Here’s a preview of what we know so far:
Design
The Sierra’s design blends retro charm with contemporary styling. The test vehicle reveals the ICE version through its central air intake. Distinctive features include a split headlight setup with integrated LED daytime running lights and vertically stacked LED headlamps. While higher trims will likely sport 19-inch alloy wheels, the prototype was seen with steel wheels. A standout design element is the reimagined rectangular rear window, a nod to the original Sierra, which sets it apart in the current SUV landscape. The boxy silhouette and flat rear, coupled with connected LED taillights, complete the SUV’s unique aesthetic.

Interior
Although the test mule’s interior was not visible, the Auto Expo 2025 showcased the Sierra ICE’s cabin. Tata has adopted a minimalist design with a modern touch. A prominent feature is the triple-screen setup spanning the dashboard. Yellow accents, complementing the exterior color, were also displayed. The familiar chunky four-spoke steering wheel with the illuminated Tata logo, seen in the Harrier and Curvv, is also present.
Features
While the official feature list is yet to be released, the Sierra is expected to be well-equipped. Anticipated features include the aforementioned triple-screen system, a panoramic sunroof, multi-color ambient lighting, wireless charging, a powered tailgate, dual-zone climate control, and ventilated powered front seats. Safety features could include up to seven airbags, ABS with EBD, a tire pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, parking sensors (front and rear), a 360-degree camera, and Level-2 ADAS.

Powertrain
The Sierra ICE is likely to be powered by a 170 PS 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine, offered with both manual and automatic transmission options. Tata will also release an electric version with multiple battery pack choices, potentially offering a claimed range of around 550 km.
Expected Price and Rivals
The Tata Sierra will compete in the competitive compact SUV segment. Pricing is expected to start around ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom). Key rivals include the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, and MG Astor. The Sierra’s blend of nostalgia and modern features makes it a highly anticipated arrival in the SUV market.
