BMW has unveiled its latest retro motorcycle, the R 12 S, paying homage to its iconic predecessor from five decades ago. This modern interpretation of a classic motorcycle combines retro aesthetics with contemporary technology.
The R 12 S embraces a cafe-racer style, featuring a distinctive bat fairing with a smoked visor and a rear seat cowl. The striking orange and white color scheme further enhances its visual appeal, complemented by bar-end mirrors. The unconventional left-side side-mounted twin exhaust adds to the bike’s unique character.
Powering this retro roadster is a 1,170cc boxer-twin engine, delivering a respectable 109 horsepower and 115 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and a shaft drive system. BMW has equipped the R 12 S with an array of electronic rider aids, including traction control, multiple ride modes, engine brake control, hill start assist, heated grips, cruise control, and keyless ride.
The bike’s suspension setup comprises fully adjustable USD front forks and a fully adjustable rear monoshock, ensuring a comfortable and controlled ride. Braking duties are handled by twin 310mm front discs and a single 265mm rear disc, providing ample stopping power.
While the BMW R 12 S is priced at USD 21,590 (approximately Rs. 18.26 lakh) in the USA, its introduction to the Indian market is unlikely due to various factors.
