Aston Martin’s Valkyrie has shattered the Silverstone lap record for a street-legal production car, clocking an astonishing time of 1:56.42. This extraordinary feat was achieved by test driver and Le Mans winner Darren Turner, who pushed the hypercar to its limits on the iconic British racetrack.
The Valkyrie’s impressive lap time significantly surpasses the previous record held by a modified Porsche 911 GT2 RS, which was 2:06.83. It’s worth noting that the Valkyrie’s time is even faster than the GT3 race car record set in 2019 by a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 on slick tires.
Achieved on standard Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, this record-breaking performance was made possible despite slightly damp track conditions due to earlier rain. The Valkyrie’s exceptional handling capabilities allowed it to pull over 3.3g in corners and reach a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h) on the straights.
Darren Turner expressed his awe at the Valkyrie’s performance, stating, “The car performed brilliantly. I’m not sure I had anything more to give, but maybe on a drier day, we could have found a few more tenths.” He further emphasized the car’s incredible versatility, saying, “It’s mind-blowing that this is a road-legal car you can drive to Silverstone and then lap faster than a British GT championship pole lap.”
While the Valkyrie’s ultimate goal of matching F1 car speeds remains elusive, even for the track-only AMR Pro variant, its record-breaking performance solidifies its position as one of the fastest and most exhilarating road-legal cars ever built.
