Stellantis, the parent company of Ram, has been facing significant challenges in recent months. The automaker has been plagued by delays in the launch of its highly anticipated electric vehicles and quality control issues with its traditional gasoline-powered models.
The Ram 1500 REV, an all-electric pickup truck, was unveiled in February 2023 but has been repeatedly delayed. Its launch is now expected in the first half of 2025. Similarly, the Ramcharger, a plug-in hybrid pickup, was unveiled in November 2023 and is also facing production delays.
Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares attributed these delays to a heavy workload and the company’s commitment to rigorous quality control. However, the delays have added to Ram’s woes, as the brand has already been struggling with declining sales in the US market.
In addition to the electric vehicle delays, Ram has also been grappling with quality issues with its gasoline-powered 1500 pickup truck. Stellantis acknowledged that a significant number of new 1500 trucks required repairs shortly after leaving the factory.
The recent discontinuation of the Ram 1500 Classic, which featured the iconic Hemi V8 engine, marks the end of an era for the brand. As Ram shifts its focus towards electrification, it will need to address these challenges and deliver high-quality products to maintain its market position.
