Passenger’s Violent Outburst Disrupts Churchgate-Virar AC Train, TTE Targeted

On Thursday, a confrontation between a passenger and a Railway Ticket Examiner (TTE) on the Churchgate-Virar fast air-conditioned (AC) local train caused significant disruption and highlighted the challenges faced by ticket checkers on Mumbai’s crowded suburban trains. According to media reports, the episode began when Chief Ticket Inspector Jasbir Singh was conducting a routine ticket inspection on the AC local train. Singh discovered three passengers traveling with first-class tickets who were required to pay fines as per railway regulations. As Singh requested the payment of these fines, Aniket Bhosale, another passenger, became agitated and engaged in a heated argument with him.

The situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation. When the train reached Borivali station, Singh instructed Bhosale to disembark, but Bhosale refused to comply. Witnesses reported that Bhosale verbally abused Singh and physically attacked him, even tearing Singh’s shirt. The disruption caused by this altercation resulted in Singh losing Rs 1,500 that had been collected from other passengers as fines. Furthermore, the train experienced delays at Borivali due to the incident, which hindered Singh from completing his duties effectively.

The altercation was recorded by a fellow passenger, capturing the moments when Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel intervened to remove Bhosale from the train. Bhosale was eventually deboarded at Nallasopara, where authorities took him into custody.

In the aftermath of the incident, a case was filed against Bhosale. Remarkably, he admitted his wrongdoing, reimbursed the Rs 1,500 to Singh, and issued a written apology to the authorities. Bhosale expressed concern about the potential impact of the incident on his job prospects and pleaded for leniency. Taking Bhosale’s apology and his earnest plea into account, Singh chose to forgive him. The authorities, considering Singh’s decision, opted to issue a warning rather than pursue further legal action against Bhosale.
