VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer, is set to make its highly anticipated Indian debut at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. This announcement follows the company’s confirmation of its entry into the Indian market earlier this year, along with the commencement of construction for its EV manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu. To further excite the Indian market, VinFast has unveiled a teaser of its VF7 electric SUV, signaling its intention to compete in the burgeoning Indian EV market.
Founded in 2017, VinFast has rapidly emerged as a prominent player in the global EV landscape. As the sole Vietnamese automaker with a significant international presence, VinFast has successfully launched three electric cars, two electric scooters, and an electric bus in its home market. In 2021, the company expanded its global footprint by establishing a presence in the United States, Europe, and Canada.
The VF7, a stylish 5-seater electric SUV measuring 4,545 mm in length and boasting a 2,840 mm wheelbase, is poised to rival established players like the Mahindra XEV 9e and Hyundai Ioniq 5 in the Indian market. While the initial offerings are expected to be completely built-up units (CBUs), VinFast plans to transition to local assembly in the future.
Powered by a 75.3 kWh battery pack, the VF7 offers an impressive WLTP-certified range of up to 450 kilometers. Depending on the variant, the VF7 can be equipped with either a single motor, delivering 204 PS and 310 Nm of torque, or a dual-motor setup generating 354 PS and 500 Nm of torque. While the single-motor variant offers front-wheel drive, the dual-motor configuration provides all-wheel drive for enhanced traction and handling.
The VF7 is generously equipped with a host of premium features, including a panoramic sunroof, a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a head-up display, and advanced connected car technology. Safety is paramount, with the VF7 incorporating up to eight airbags, a 360-degree camera system, electronic stability control (ESC), and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
The VinFast VF7 is expected to be priced competitively, with an estimated starting price of around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). It will directly challenge existing players in the premium electric SUV segment, including the Mahindra XEV 9e, BYD Sealion 7, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6.
