Honda Motor Co., Ltd. and Swedish start-up GoCimo (formerly GoCiklo), which specializes in rental and sharing services for electric motorcycles with swappable batteries, are set to launch a pilot battery-sharing service in Malmö, Sweden. Scheduled to begin in February 2025 and last for a year, the trial will assess how well the service is received in Europe, the effectiveness of a new battery-swapping station, and the overall business potential.

This test will feature Honda’s Power Pack Exchanger e:, a battery-swapping station installed at three locations in Malmö, which will enable users to exchange Honda’s Mobile Power Pack e: batteries for their EM1 e: electric scooters, available in the European market. Honda will supply the necessary hardware, including 30 EM1 e: scooters, 60 Mobile Power Pack e: batteries, and three Power Pack Exchanger e: stations, as well as provide maintenance support throughout the test.

Founded in 2022, GoCimo was created to address increasing emissions and traffic congestion within the delivery and transportation sectors, as urban logistics continue to grow. With battery-sharing services already operational in Stockholm and Gothenburg, GoCimo will manage customer relations, oversee service operations, and secure station locations for the Malmö trial. Through this partnership, Honda and GoCimo will explore the feasibility of a long-term collaboration in Europe’s expanding electric vehicle market.

Having already introduced battery-sharing services in Japan, India, Indonesia, and Thailand, this initiative in Sweden will be Honda’s fifth location for such services. Honda views this venture with GoCimo as a key step toward advancing electric mobility and supporting low-carbon goals across Europe, particularly by providing battery-sharing solutions for business users in major cities.
