BYD M6

BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle giant, has expanded its presence in Southeast Asia with the launch of the M6 electric MPV in Thailand. This marks the second market entry for the M6, following its debut in Indonesia.

Priced competitively at starting prices of 829,900 baht ($24,700) and 929,900 baht, the BYD M6 offers a compelling value proposition for Thai consumers.

Performance and Features

The M6 boasts impressive performance, thanks to its electric motor that delivers a maximum power of 204 horsepower and a peak torque of 310 Nm. This enables it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 8.6 seconds.

Powered by a 71.8 kWh blade battery pack, the M6 offers a NEDC range of 530 kilometers, making it suitable for long-distance travel. Its spacious interior, measuring 4,710 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,690 mm in height, provides ample room for passengers.

BYD’s Expansion in Southeast Asia

The launch of the M6 in Thailand is a significant milestone for BYD’s strategy to expand its footprint in the Southeast Asian market. The company has been actively investing in the region, establishing a manufacturing plant in Thailand with an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles.

BYD’s commitment to the Thai market is evident in its strong sales performance, with cumulative sales exceeding 50,000 vehicles and a network of 117 sales outlets.

Focus on Electric Vehicles

BYD has been at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution, focusing solely on the production of plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles since March 2022. This strategic shift has paid off, as the company continues to achieve strong sales growth.

In August 2023, BYD sold 373,083 NEVs globally, representing a year-on-year increase of 35.97 percent. Overseas sales also saw a significant boost, reaching 31,451 units in August, a 25.69 percent increase compared to the previous year.

With the launch of the M6 in Thailand, BYD is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for electric vehicles in the region. The company’s commitment to offering high-quality, affordable electric vehicles is expected to drive further success in the Southeast Asian market.
