Tata Motors has finally taken the wraps off its much-anticipated SUV-coupe offerings, the Tata Curvv and Tata Curvv EV. While the exterior design of both models has been revealed, the carmaker is focusing on the electric variant initially, with pricing and launch details for the ICE (internal combustion engine) version to follow. Although official bookings haven’t opened, some Tata dealerships have already started accepting offline reservations.
Design: A Blend of Familiarity and Freshness
The Curvv marks Tata’s entry into the SUV-coupe segment, a rapidly growing market. While the overall design draws inspiration from existing Tata models, it boasts a distinctive silhouette that sets it apart. Both the ICE and EV versions feature a connected LED DRL strip and all-LED headlights. The ICE model sports a blacked-out grille, while the EV gets a body-coloured, closed-off panel.
Side profiles reveal a coupe-like roofline and flush-mounted door handles, a first for a Tata car. The ICE variant rides on petal-shaped dual-tone alloy wheels, whereas the EV gets aerodynamically designed alloys. At the rear, both models share a connected LED taillight design.
Interior: A Familiar Yet Upgraded Cabin
While Tata hasn’t divulged interior details, it’s expected to share similarities with the Tata Nexon. However, the steering wheel is likely to be a 4-spoke unit with an illuminated Tata logo, mirroring the design of the Harrier and Safari.
Features and Safety: Loaded to the Brim
Both the Curvv and Curvv EV are expected to come equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. Safety features are likely to include six airbags, a 360-degree camera with blind view monitor, electronic stability control, and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Powertrain Options: Petrol, Diesel, and Electric
The Curvv ICE is set to debut Tata’s eagerly awaited 1.2-litre T-GDi (turbo-petrol) engine, alongside the familiar 1.5-litre diesel unit from the Nexon. Transmission options are expected to include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The Curvv EV is anticipated to offer multiple battery pack options, with a claimed range of around 500 kilometers. Tata has yet to reveal specific battery and motor details for the electric variant.
Launch, Pricing, and Competition
Tata will initially focus on the Curvv EV, with prices expected to start from Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). The ICE version is likely to be positioned below Rs 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Curvv EV will compete with the MG ZS EV and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, while the ICE model will rival the Citroen C3 Aircross. Both Curvv variants will also challenge the dominance of compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, and MG Astor.
