Skoda Auto India today announced the launch of the Onyx AT variant of the popular Kushaq compact SUV in the domestic market. The Skoda Kushaq Onyx AT is considered to be the cheapest automatic SUV in its segment. It is priced at Rs 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and is powered exclusively by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI turbocharged petrol engine.
The Czech carmaker first launched the Kushaq Onyx Edition last year, but only with a manual transmission. Now, the addition of the six-speed torque converter automatic transmission has helped expand the range. The powertrain produces a maximum power of 114 bhp and a peak torque of 178 Nm.
The Onyx version sits between the Active and Ambition trim levels and is packed with features like paddle shifters, automatic climate control, hill start assist, cornering fog lights, rear wiper with defogger, LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights, and automatic rain-sensing wipers (if included). A few months ago, Skoda launched the Kushaq range which has been expanded to include six airbags as standard.
Recently, its sister model, the VW Taigun, received six airbags as standard equipment. Both compact SUVs are based on the highly localised MQB A0 IN platform and share several similarities. They also achieved five stars in the Global NCAP crash tests. Some of the other notable features of the Onyx AT include tectonic wheel covers, Onyx-branded fabric floor mats, and automatic climate control with touch panels for control.
Customers also get door sills with Onyx lettering and an Onyx badging on the B-pillars. Commenting on the launch of the Kushaq Onyx AT, Skoda Auto India Brand Director Petr Janeba said,
“The Onyx variant is an important addition to our offering as it combines the value of the Active version with the features of the higher variants. This new offering of the Kushaq Onyx responds to feedback from our customers indicating a high demand for an automatic variant at a more affordable price point. In fact, our value proposition makes this Kushaq the most affordable automatic vehicle in its entire segment.
