Citroen India is set to spice up its lineup just as it prepares to enter a highly competitive segment with its new coupe-SUV, the Basalt. The French automaker has unveiled updated versions of its popular C3 hatchback and C3 Aircross SUV, both of which have been criticized for missing out on essential features compared to rivals.
Citroen C3: A Feature-Packed Upgrade
The entry-level Citroen C3, priced from Rs 6.16 lakh, is getting a significant boost in terms of equipment. The most noticeable changes are on the outside, with the introduction of projector LED headlights and auto-folding ORVMs. These additions bring the C3 in line with its competitors.
However, the real transformation lies inside the cabin. The C3 now boasts a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a feature that has been sorely missed. Automatic climate control is another welcome addition to the feature list. To enhance convenience, the rear power window controls have been relocated to the door cards from their previous awkward position behind the handbrake. Safety is also a priority, with the addition of six airbags across the range.
Citroen C3 Aircross: A More Competitive SUV
The C3 Aircross SUV is also receiving a similar treatment. LED projector headlights and auto-folding ORVMs find their way into this model as well. Inside, the C3 Aircross benefits from the same upgrades as the C3, including a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, and relocated rear power window switches. The SUV also gets the added safety net of six airbags.
Pricing and Launch
While Citroen hasn’t officially announced the launch date for the updated C3 and C3 Aircross, it’s expected to happen in the coming weeks. With the inclusion of several new features, it’s highly likely that the prices will see an increase, especially for the higher-spec variants. Currently, the top-end C3 is priced at Rs 9.12 lakh, while the C3 Aircross retails for Rs 14.33 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
It’s worth noting that Citroen is expected to retain the existing petrol engine and transmission options for both models.
These updates are a step in the right direction for Citroen India, addressing some of the key shortcomings of the C3 and C3 Aircross. With a more competitive feature set, the French automaker aims to strengthen its position in the Indian market, especially as it prepares to take on the challenges of the burgeoning coupe-SUV segment.
