Luxury SUVs reached a new peak of opulence with the introduction of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan in 2018. Now, in 2024, it has received its major update, known as the Cullinan Series II. This refresh boasts a more stylish presence inside and out, while retaining its vast potential for bespoke customizations favored by Rolls-Royce clientele.
Subtle Yet Sophisticated Exterior Enhancements
The 2024 Cullinan features subtle aesthetic tweaks compared to its predecessor. The SUV now sports sleeker LED headlights, sharper L-shaped LED DRLs, and larger air intakes integrated into the redesigned front bumper. A first for the Cullinan is the illuminated grille, similar to the one seen on the Phantom Series II. The updated bumper lines form a subtle “V” that Rolls-Royce likens to the sharp bow of a modern sport yacht.
While the sides maintain a familiar look, new alloy wheels are offered, including the option for massive 23-inch aluminum units. The rear boasts even subtler changes, with the most noticeable updates being a revised exhaust outlet and a brushed silver skid plate. Rolls-Royce introduces a new Emperador Truffle paint option, a sophisticated solid grey-brown shade. For those seeking an even bolder statement, the Black Badge Cullinan features darkened elements for a dramatic look.
Refined Elegance in the Cabin
While the exterior changes are understated, the interior retains the Rolls-Royce tradition of near-perfection. The facelifted Cullinan showcases a new full-glass panel across the dashboard. The familiar touchscreen infotainment system with Rolls-Royce’s Spirit interface and digital driver’s display remain. The passenger side comes alive with graphics depicting skylines of global megacities illuminated by 7,000 strategically placed laser-etched dots behind the glass panel.
One captivating addition is the new display unit featuring an analog clock and a meticulously crafted miniature Spirit of Ecstasy emblem positioned below it. Owners can personalize the instrument dials to complement their Cullinan’s interior or exterior design. Environmentally conscious materials are tactfully incorporated throughout the cabin, including bamboo fabric, open-pore wood panels, and hand-stained wood veneers. The new Duality Twill upholstery is a marvel of craftsmanship, taking 20 hours to create using 22 lakh stitches and nearly 20 kilometers of thread.
Technology and Powertrain
The luxurious cabin is complemented by an abundance of advanced technology. Dual digital displays, multi-zone climate control, rear entertainment displays, massaging and temperature-controlled seats, an 18-speaker sound system, connected car tech, and advanced driver-assistance systems are all onboard.
Rolls-Royce retains the Cullinan Series II’s powerful 6.75-liter V12 petrol engine. While official output figures haven’t been revealed, the pre-facelift model delivered 571 PS and 850 Nm. All-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission are standard. The sportier Black Badge variant boasts 600 PS and 900 Nm for those who relish performance.
Expected Arrival in India
The facelifted Rolls-Royce Cullinan is expected to arrive in India during the latter half of 2024, likely at a significant price premium over the outgoing model. It will compete with the Bentley Bentayga and Land Rover Range Rover SV in the ultra-luxury SUV segment.
