The Mahindra Thar has undeniably captured the hearts of off-road enthusiasts in India. Building on this success, Mahindra is set to launch the highly anticipated five-door version, aptly named the Thar Roxx, on Independence Day, August 15, 2024. With a flurry of teasers and leaks, anticipation is at an all-time high. Let’s dive into what we can expect from this upcoming adventure-packed SUV.
A New Dimension: The Thar Roxx
The most striking change in the Thar Roxx is the addition of two rear doors, transforming it from a compact off-roader to a more practical family-friendly SUV. This extended wheelbase not only enhances accessibility to the rear seats but also promises improved interior space. The Thar Roxx boasts dimensions of 4,070 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,895 mm in height.
Beyond Off-Road: Everyday Usability
While the Thar’s off-road prowess remains undisputed, the Roxx aims to bridge the gap between adventure and practicality. The extended wheelbase and additional doors make it a more suitable choice for daily commutes and family outings.
A Stylish Evolution
The Thar Roxx sports a refreshed exterior with new LED headlights featuring distinctive C-shaped DRLs, a redesigned horseshoe-shaped grille, and circular fog lights. The side profile showcases new doors and impressive 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Unique touches include a distinctive rear three-quarter glass design and redesigned taillights. The iconic spare tyre mounted at the rear is retained.
Modern Interior with a Touch of Adventure
The Thar Roxx’s interior promises a blend of ruggedness and refinement. Beige upholstery and seating for three passengers in the rear are expected. The familiar dashboard layout is retained, but it gets a significant upgrade with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system borrowed from the Mahindra XUV300.
Other notable interior features include a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, keyless entry with push-button start, wireless phone charger, premium audio system, dual-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof.
Safety First
Mahindra prioritizes safety with the Thar Roxx, offering six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and ISOFIX child seat anchors as standard.
Power and Performance
The Thar Roxx will be available with two engine options: a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol generating around 150 PS and 320 Nm of torque, and a 2.2-litre diesel producing 130 PS and 300 Nm of torque. Both engines can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Off-road capabilities are enhanced with mechanical locking differentials, terrain response modes, and hill descent control.
Launch and Competition
The Mahindra Thar Roxx is scheduled for launch on August 15, 2024, with an expected price range of Rs 13.60 lakh to Rs 24.20 lakh. It will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door, Force Gurkha 5-door, and its sibling, the Scorpio-N.
The Thar Roxx promises to be a compelling option for those seeking a blend of off-road capability and everyday practicality. With its stylish design, feature-packed interior, and robust powertrain, it has the potential to further solidify Mahindra’s dominance in the SUV segment.
