The Lexus ES, now in its sixth year of production, has received a refresh for the 2026 model year, with the updated version debuting at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show in China. This update introduces minor design enhancements and a larger infotainment system, while mechanical components remain unchanged. The facelift hints at possible updates for markets like North America, though major overhauls are not part of the package.
The refreshed ES showcases subtle exterior modifications, particularly at the front. The matrix LED headlights have been reconfigured and paired with a refined spindle grille that seamlessly integrates with the hood, mirroring design elements of the larger Lexus RX. Additional exterior changes include updated LED taillights featuring new graphics and a full-width light bar, aligning with modern design trends.
Inside the cabin, the most significant change is the introduction of a 14-inch touchscreen display, replacing the previous 12.3-inch unit. This larger display adopts the interface seen in the RX model, complemented by rotary controls for climate and media settings. Other interior updates include a redesigned gear selector, enhanced voice control technology, and fresh trim and upholstery options.
No Mechanical Changes for China-Spec Model
In China, the refreshed ES retains its existing powertrain options. The entry-level ES 200 is equipped with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 170 hp (127 kW), while the ES 300h hybrid combines a 2.5-liter engine with an electric motor for a total output of 215 hp (160 kW). Both variants are paired with a CVT and feature front-wheel drive. Notably, the hybrid powertrain improvements seen in the US-spec Toyota Camry are absent in this update.
The updated ES is now available for order in China, with prices starting at ¥299,900 (approximately $41,492) for the ES 200 Premium Edition and reaching ¥488,900 for the flagship ES 300h Executive Edition. Deliveries have already begun at local dealerships.
Future Prospects for the Lexus ES
The current, seventh-generation Lexus ES launched in 2018 and underwent its first facelift in 2021. While there is no official confirmation about whether these updates will extend to other markets, the 2026 refresh could prolong the ES’s lifecycle for a few more years.
Meanwhile, speculation continues about a potential complete redesign for the ES. Patent filings and earlier teasers suggest Lexus might be exploring a departure from the iconic spindle grille design. These changes could debut on a rumored fully electric variant or with the launch of the next-generation model.
