Kia Australia Recalls Seltos SUVs Due to Faulty Curtain Airbags

Kia Seltos

Kia Australia has recalled 292 units of the 2023 Kia Seltos due to an issue with the side curtain airbags. The recalled vehicles are facelifted models. This is a safety concern that Kia is addressing.

Side Curtain Airbag Issue

Kia said in a statement that the side curtain airbags on the affected Seltos units could deploy without an accident due to a manufacturing defect. This could distract the driver, increasing the risk of serious injuries or accidents.

What Did the Company Say?

Kia Australia’s recall notice states: “Due to a manufacturing defect, the side airbags may deploy without warning. Accidental deployment of the airbag could distract the driver and cause injury to vehicle occupants. The number of fatalities could increase.”

Repair is Free

Kia said owners of affected vehicles should contact their preferred Kia dealer immediately and schedule an appointment to have the curtain airbag inspected and replaced at no charge.

Kia Seltos Engine and Specifications

The Australian Seltos is offered with a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine tuned to produce 148 PS of power and 180 Nm of maximum torque. There is also a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 196 PS and 265 Nm.

The 2.0-liter engine is mated to a CVT automatic transmission, while the turbo-petrol engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Kia Seltos destined for Australia are exported from the automaker’s plant in South Korea.
