Gurkha Gets an Upgrade: Force Motors Unveils Feature-Packed 2024 Facelift

Force Gurkha

Force Motors is gearing up to launch the 2024 update of its rugged SUV, the Gurkha. This facelift aims to directly compete with the popular Mahindra Thar, particularly with the upcoming 5-door version. Here’s a comprehensive look at what the new Gurkha brings to the table.

Updated Interiors and Tech Features:

The teaser reveals a significant upgrade in the Gurkha’s interior. The biggest change is a fully digital instrument cluster, replacing the current analog dials and small MID. This cluster displays essential information like engine temperature, fuel level, tachometer, and gear indicator. Additionally, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is hinted at in the teaser.

Another welcome addition is a bigger infotainment screen. While details are scarce, it’s expected to be a significant upgrade over the current system, offering more features and a modern look.

3-Door and 5-Door Options:

Matching Mahindra’s move, Force is introducing a 5-door Gurkha to take on the upcoming 5-door Thar. Rumors suggest a possible 7-seat variant with a bench seat in the second row and individual seats in the third. However, the 3-door Gurkha is known for offering more space and a bigger boot compared to the Thar.

Enhanced Convenience Features:

The 2024 Gurkha gets a revamped 4×4 selector. Replacing the current lever system, a cleaner and more user-friendly knob will manage 4×4 engagement. However, the differential lock system remains the same.

Powertrain and Performance:

The new Gurkha retains the familiar 2.6-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine delivers 91 BHP and 250 Nm of torque, falling short of the Mahindra Thar’s 2.2-litre diesel engine with 130 BHP and 300 Nm. Additionally, the Thar offers a wider range with a 4×2 option, a petrol engine, and an automatic transmission, features missing in the current Gurkha.

Launch Date and Expected Price:

The 3-door and 5-door Gurkha are expected to launch sometime in April-May 2024, well ahead of the 5-door Thar’s August 15th launch. Pricing details are yet to be revealed, but the 5-door Gurkha is estimated to be priced around Rs. 17 lakhs (ex-showroom). Aggressive pricing will be crucial for Force to capture market share before the Thar Armada arrives. The 3-door Gurkha is likely to see a moderate price increase.

The Verdict:

The 2024 Force Gurkha facelift offers a compelling package with a refreshed interior, improved technology features, and the introduction of a 5-door variant. While the existing engine might limit its appeal compared to the Thar’s powertrain options, the Gurkha’s focus on off-road capability and potential competitive pricing could make it a strong contender in the Indian SUV market.
