Ford has unveiled an updated version of its Equator SUV for the Chinese market. This mid-cycle refresh brings a redesigned exterior, an upgraded interior, and a new plug-in hybrid powertrain.
A New Look:
The refreshed Equator sports a more aggressive front fascia with a wider grille, sleeker headlights, and a redesigned bumper. The rear end also gets a makeover, featuring slimmer taillights and a revised bumper. The SUV now rides on new 20-inch alloy wheels and offers a wider range of exterior colors.
A Tech-Packed Interior:
Inside, the Equator retains its dual 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. However, Ford has updated the interior design with new seat options, including individual second-row seats with reclining backrests.
Plug-in Hybrid Power:
The biggest news is the introduction of a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This setup combines a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor and a 18.4 kWh battery pack. The combined output is a substantial 362 horsepower and 555 Nm of torque. Ford claims an electric-only range of up to 110 kilometers (68 miles) and a total range of over 1,200 kilometers.
A Chinese-Market Focus:
The Ford Equator is primarily designed for the Chinese market, where it’s produced in partnership with Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC). While it’s unlikely to be offered in other markets, the Equator’s design and technology advancements could influence future Ford models.
