Ducati India has finally launched the highly anticipated Hypermotard 698 Mono, stirring the Indian motorcycle market with its unique proposition and a hefty price tag of ₹ 16.5 lakh (ex-showroom). This unveiling marks the arrival of the world’s most powerful single-cylinder motorcycle on Indian soil, boasting an aggressive design, top-shelf components, and advanced electronics.

Uncaged Performance:

The heart of the Hypermotard 698 Mono lies in its 659cc single-cylinder engine, churning out a mighty 77.5 bhp and 63 Nm of peak torque. An optional Termignoni exhaust can further elevate these figures to 84.5 bhp and 67 Nm, making it an absolute beast on the tarmac.

Sharp Handling and Braking:

The motorcycle is built for precision handling with a steel trellis frame chassis and an adjustable Marzocchi USD fork upfront. A fully-adjustable Sachs monoshock controls the rear suspension, ensuring a comfortable and confident ride. Braking prowess comes courtesy of Brembo M4.32 calipers with dual 330mm discs at the front and a single 245mm disc at the rear, offering exceptional stopping power.

Technological Marvel:

Ducati equips the Hypermotard 698 Mono with a comprehensive suite of electronic rider aids. Riders can choose from three power modes and four ride modes (Sport, Road, Urban & Wet) for optimal performance in varying conditions. Advanced features like cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, and engine braking control enhance safety and control. A 3.8-inch LCD instrument cluster provides all the necessary ride information and allows for easy access to electronic adjustments.

Aesthetics That Thrill:

The Hypermotard 698 Mono boasts a head-turning supermotard design, inheriting elements from its larger sibling, the Hypermotard 950. The sharp beak, twin underseat exhaust pipes, and aggressive stance exude an aura of raw power and dominate any street presence.

Standing Out from the Crowd:

While the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono might not have a direct single-cylinder competitor, its price tag puts it in contention with a variety of twin, triple, and even four-cylinder motorcycles. The decision ultimately boils down to the rider’s preference for a unique, powerful single-cylinder experience or the well-established performance of multi-cylinder options.
