In the age of social media, going viral has become a common goal for many. People often showcase their talents in unique and attention-grabbing ways, sometimes leading to unexpected fame. A recent trend, however, has taken the Delhi Metro by storm, turning it into a hotspot for some of the most bizarre and controversial activities.
From impromptu dance performances to unusual stunts, commuters frequently record and share videos from inside the Delhi Metro, making the public transport system a stage for viral content. Some of these videos, while entertaining to a degree, have raised eyebrows due to their odd and sometimes inappropriate nature. Recently, a video featuring a girl dancing to a Bhojpuri song on a metro train became the subject of online trolling, with attention shifting to an unexpected participant—the woman standing behind the dancer.
Viral Dance Video: The Aunty Steals the Show
The now-viral video, shared on Instagram by the user @manishadancer01, shows a young woman dancing energetically to a Bhojpuri song on a relatively empty Delhi Metro train. While the girl may have been the intended focus, viewers quickly turned their attention to the woman standing behind her, who appeared visibly uncomfortable and anxious. This led to a flood of comments about the woman, humorously dubbed “the aunty,” overshadowing the dancer herself.
Despite the video amassing over 20 lakh views, most of the feedback in the comments section was less about the dance and more about the woman’s reaction. Some users found the juxtaposition of the two individuals—the carefree dancer and the seemingly irritated onlooker—amusing. One user, Seema, joked, “The aunty was about to slap her,” while another commenter, Neetu Verma, noted, “Hey stop, the mad aunty is scared.”
Backlash and Trolls in the Comments
While some found the situation humorous, others were more critical of the dancer’s actions. Mahesh Kumar Saini, frustrated by the disruption, angrily commented, “Help send such reels to Delhi Police,” calling for authorities to step in. Another user, Kartikeya Maurya, echoed similar sentiments, writing, “Why such people are not treated.” These comments reflect a growing frustration with public spaces being used for personal social media fame.
Interestingly, Manisha, the dancer in the video, regularly posts similar dance clips on Instagram. While many of her videos receive moderate attention, this particular one went viral due to the unintended comic relief provided by the onlooker’s reaction. However, despite the viral success, most viewers seemed to criticize the act, rather than appreciate the dance.
Another Viral Clip: Women Playing with Colours in the Metro
In another instance of unusual content filmed in the Delhi Metro, two women were seen sitting on the floor, covered in coloured powder, and smearing more colour onto each other’s faces. They were performing to the song “Ang Laga De,” with the video quickly attracting attention online. Much like the dancing video, this clip also sparked mixed reactions, with many people questioning the appropriateness of such behaviour in a public space.
The Trend of Publicity Stunts in the Delhi Metro
With videos like these gaining traction, it is clear that the Delhi Metro has inadvertently become a stage for viral content, whether intended or not. Some commuters film themselves to showcase their talents, while others aim purely for social media fame, often at the cost of public decorum. This trend raises questions about where the line should be drawn between creative self-expression and public disruption.
As social media continues to evolve, so will the lengths to which people go in order to grab attention. However, it is important to strike a balance between gaining fame and respecting public spaces. For now, the Delhi Metro remains a curious backdrop for viral moments that entertain, perplex, and sometimes even irritate viewers across the internet.
