In a significant milestone for Indian automotive safety, the all-new 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire has secured a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as the new Dzire’s body structure was rated as stable and capable of withstanding further impact. While the adult occupant protection received a 5-star rating, child occupant protection was rated at 4 stars.
David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation, praised Maruti Suzuki for this significant step forward. He emphasized that the 5-star rating sets a new safety benchmark for the company and expressed optimism that Maruti Suzuki would strive to achieve this level of safety across its entire model range.
The new Dzire’s stellar performance in the Global NCAP crash test is a crucial development for Indian automotive safety, considering Maruti Suzuki’s dominant market share. The increased kerb weight of the new generation Dzire, attributed to the use of stronger steel and reinforced structural components, has played a significant role in enhancing its safety.
The new Dzire comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including six airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, speed alert, seat belt reminders, ISOFIX child seat mounts, electronic stability control (ESC), and pedestrian protection. These features, mandated by the Indian government, contribute to the car’s overall safety performance.
This achievement marks a significant departure from Maruti Suzuki’s past performance in Global NCAP crash tests, where several models, including the popular Swift and Alto, had received zero-star ratings and were criticized for unstable body structures.
While the new Dzire’s 5-star rating is a positive development, it remains to be seen if Maruti Suzuki will extend similar levels of safety to its other models. The company has yet to disclose the crash test results of the new Grand Vitara, which was tested by the Indian NCAP.
