The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport, a hypercar renowned for its blistering speed and astronomical price tag, faced an unexpected challenge: a lack of suitable drink holders. This oversight, highlighted by a social media post from a Chiron owner who spilled a can of Red Bull, prompted Bugatti’s design director, Frank Heyl, to intervene.
The owner, Shannon Ralston, playfully requested Heyl to design a cupholder for her flamboyant white and pink Chiron. While a simple solution might seem feasible, integrating a cupholder into the Chiron’s intricate design presented a unique engineering challenge.
Bugatti’s response? A cleverly designed dual cupholder that seamlessly clips into the existing door pocket. The design incorporates a larger slot for water bottles and a smaller one specifically sized for Red Bull cans.
Heyl has offered to 3D-print a prototype for Ralston in January, pending her approval. Whether Bugatti will offer this custom cupholder to other Chiron owners remains to be seen.
The issue of drink storage is likely to be addressed in the upcoming Bugatti Tourbillon, a V16-powered hypercar. However, the Tourbillon’s unique interior design, featuring small storage compartments behind leather flaps, will necessitate a more innovative solution.
