Scout Motors, the revived off-road vehicle brand, has announced that it will unveil a pair of concept vehicles on October 24, 2024. These concepts will offer a glimpse into the future of Scout and provide a taste of what to expect when the production electric vehicles begin rolling off the assembly line in South Carolina in 2026.
The announcement came in the form of a simple teaser video on social media, featuring a roof-mounted compass with the stylized Scout name below. The date “10.24.2024” holds significance for fans of the original International Scout, as the last Scout II was built on October 24, 1980.
Scout Motors was acquired by Volkswagen in 2020, and the company is now planning to revive the iconic Scout brand. The new Scout models will be built at a $2 billion plant in Blythewood, South Carolina, with an annual production capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles.
While technical details about the upcoming Scout models are limited, the company has previously shared sketches depicting an SUV with a high ride height and minimal overhangs, as well as a pickup truck with a longer wheelbase. Both models are clearly designed to compete with electric vehicles from Rivian, Ford, Chevy, and Jeep.
Interestingly, Volkswagen’s recent investment of $5 billion in Rivian has added an intriguing twist to the Scout Motors story. Despite the investment, Volkswagen remains committed to the Scout brand and has indicated that Scout models could potentially benefit from Rivian technology in the future.
As the October 24 reveal date approaches, anticipation is building for the unveiling of the Scout concept vehicles. These models will provide valuable insights into the brand’s vision and direction, and offer a glimpse into the future of electric off-road vehicles.
