With the growing demand for electric cars in India, car manufacturers are racing to launch new models. Kia Motors India is no exception, and they’re gearing up to expand their electric vehicle (EV) portfolio in the Indian market by 2026.
Four New Electric Vehicles
Kia will introduce a total of four new electric cars in India. These include three all-new models – the EV9, EV3, and the Carens EV – alongside the facelifted version of the existing EV6.
Kia EV9: Powerful Performance and Long Range
Kia’s first electric offering for India this year will be the EV9. This flagship SUV boasts two powertrain options in the international market: a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD). The Indian version is expected to come with a powerful 99.8 kWh battery, offering an impressive range of over 600 kilometers on a single charge. Packed with technology, the EV9 will feature dual 12.3-inch screens, a premium 14-speaker Meridian sound system, vehicle-to-load charging capability, nine airbags, a 360-degree camera, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) Level 2.
Kia EV3: Compact SUV with Impressive Range (expected 2026 launch)
The Kia EV3, a compact electric SUV, is expected to arrive in India in 2026. Globally, it was recently launched with two battery options. The Indian variant is likely to offer a range exceeding 400 kilometers on a full charge with a single electric motor. Kia claims a zippy acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds, with a top speed of 180 km/h. Feature highlights include dual 12.3-inch screens, climate control, sunroof, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and Level 2 ADAS.
Kia Carens EV: Electric Version of the Popular MPV (potential launch)
Kia might also introduce an electric version of their popular Kia Carens MPV in India. While details about the battery and motor are yet to be revealed, we can expect a driving range of around 400-500 kilometers. The Carens EV is likely to come equipped with a 10.25-inch dual-screen infotainment system, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, sunroof, safety features like 6 airbags and electronic stability control (ESC), and ADAS functionalities.
Facelifted Kia EV6 Arrives in 12-18 Months
Launched in India in 2022, the Kia EV6 will receive a facelift within the next 12-18 months. This updated version will boast a larger battery and a refreshed design. The EV6 facelift is expected to offer a driving range of around 500 kilometers on a single charge and will come loaded with features like a dual 12.3-inch display, multi-zone touchscreen climate control, electric seats, and ADAS Level 2.
