JSW MG Motors has made a significant stride in India’s electric vehicle (EV) market with the launch of its third EV, the Windsor EV. Positioned between the popular Comet EV and ZS EV, the Windsor EV is part of the company’s ambitious plan to introduce a new car every six months.
Expanding EV Portfolio
With over 35% of its sales coming from EVs, MG is aggressively expanding its electric vehicle lineup. The focus is on hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). This strategic move aligns with India’s growing demand for greener transportation options.
Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS)
To make EVs more accessible, MG has introduced a unique concept in the passenger vehicle segment: Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS). Similar to the commercial vehicle market, BaaS allows customers to lease the battery instead of purchasing it. This significantly reduces the upfront cost of the car, making it more attractive to potential buyers.
Windsor EV Pricing and BaaS Options
The Windsor EV has been priced at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), but this is exclusive of the battery cost. Customers can opt for the BaaS program, which offers a monthly subscription fee starting at Rs 5,250 for 1,500 km. For additional distance, a fee of Rs 3.50 per km applies. However, BaaS is optional. Customers can still purchase the Windsor EV with the battery included, and the pricing details will be announced soon.
Battery Warranty and Charging Benefits
MG has provided a lifetime warranty for the battery to the first owner. Second owners will be eligible for an 8-year/1.6 lakh km warranty. As a promotional offer, customers who purchase the Windsor EV before December 31st will receive one year of free charging at MG’s public charging stations.
Tracking Usage with Telematics
To ensure accurate billing for the BaaS program, MG has partnered with finance providers like Bajaj Finance and Hero FinCorp. Telematics technology installed in the car will track real-time usage, allowing for precise calculation of subscription fees.
With the Windsor EV and the innovative BaaS program, JSW MG Motors is well-positioned to capitalize on India’s growing EV market. By offering a variety of options and addressing potential barriers to adoption, the company is making electric vehicles more accessible and attractive to Indian consumers.
