At the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show, Hyundai Motor India is set to unveil two highly anticipated electric SUVs: the Hyundai Creta EV and the Hyundai Ioniq 9. While the pricing for the Creta EV will be disclosed during the event, it is expected to rival the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Maruti e-Vitara. Meanwhile, the Ioniq 9, Hyundai’s new flagship electric SUV built on the E-GMP modular electric architecture, is slated to first launch in South Korea and North America in early 2025. There is no confirmation yet about its Indian release.
Here’s a closer look at these and other Hyundai EVs in the pipeline:
Hyundai Creta EV
This electric SUV is expected to feature a 45kWh battery pack, delivering 138bhp and 255Nm of torque. While range figures are yet to be confirmed, it is estimated to exceed 350km on a single charge. Design cues include a closed-off front grille, revised bumpers, and new alloy wheels. The interior will feature a circular 3-spoke steering wheel and unique seat upholstery.
Hyundai Ioniq 9
This flagship SUV, based on the E-GMP platform, will initially be launched in South Korea and North America. It boasts a 110.3kWh battery pack and offers both RWD and AWD configurations. The Long Range RWD variant delivers 218PS and 350Nm of torque, with a WLTP-claimed range of 620km. The Ioniq 9 supports 400V and 800V charging and offers V2L functionality.
Expanding the EV Portfolio:
Beyond the Creta EV and Ioniq 9, Hyundai has plans to expand its electric vehicle lineup in India:
- Hyundai Inster EV: Based on the Casper micro-SUV, the Inster EV will target the Tata Punch EV upon its launch. Built on the E-GMP (K) platform, it promises to be a highly competitive and potentially one of the most affordable EVs in the Indian market.
- Hyundai Venue EV: Expected to be based on the next-gen Venue, this electric SUV will directly rival the Nexon EV and the upcoming XUV300 EV in the highly competitive compact SUV segment.
- Hyundai Grand i10 Nios EV: This entry-level electric car will compete with the Tata Tiago EV, offering a compelling option in the affordable EV segment.
India as an EV Manufacturing Hub:
Hyundai aims to establish India as a key EV manufacturing hub. The company has acquired General Motors’ Talegaon plant in Maharashtra and plans to invest Rs 20,000 crore in EV development over the next eight years. Initial production targets for the Creta EV and Inster-based EV are set at 26,000 units and 65,000 units, respectively.
This comprehensive strategy positions Hyundai as a major player in India’s burgeoning electric vehicle market, with a diverse range of offerings to cater to various customer needs.
