Honda Motorcycle & Scooters India (HMSI), a dominant player in the Indian two-wheeler market, has confirmed plans to launch its first electric scooter, the Activa Electric, in March 2025. This announcement comes after a year-long delay, but the company is now confident in bringing this much-anticipated electric vehicle to the Indian market.

The Activa Electric is expected to be a completely new product, built from the ground up. While Honda hasn’t revealed specific details about the scooter, it is likely to feature the company’s e:Swap battery swapping technology. This technology is already being used for commercial three-wheelers in Bengaluru, in partnership with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation.

If Honda decides to expand its battery swapping network, it could significantly improve the accessibility and convenience of the Activa Electric. By offering riders the option to swap depleted batteries for fully charged ones, the company can address range anxiety and make longer journeys more feasible.

In addition to battery swapping, the Activa Electric is expected to come equipped with advanced features like a touchscreen infotainment unit, connected features, and keyless go. These features will enhance the overall riding experience and make the scooter more appealing to modern consumers.

The Activa Electric’s launch marks a significant step forward for HMSI and the Indian electric two-wheeler market. As the country continues to transition towards electric mobility, Honda’s entry into this segment is a positive development. With its strong brand reputation and proven track record, the Activa Electric has the potential to become a popular choice among Indian consumers.
