BYD Unveils Shark Pickup Truck in Mexico

BYD introduced its new BYD Shark pickup truck in Mexico on May 15. The Shark targets the US and Australian markets, with a launch in China yet to be confirmed.

The BYD truck boasts a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour and comes in two variants: GL and GS. While specific differences between the models are unknown, BYD has priced them differently.

The BYD Shark GL starts at 899,980 Mexican pesos (approximately ₹4,842,823), while the BYD Shark GS starts at 969,800 Mexican pesos (approximately ₹5,218,559). The Shark comes in three colors: Pallas White, Marmara Black, and Atlantis Grey.

Performance and Range of the BYD Shark

The BYD Shark features a plug-in hybrid powertrain with two motors. The front motor delivers a maximum power of 170 kW and 310 Nm torque, while the rear motor produces 150 kW and 340 Nm torque. This combination propels the Shark from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 5.7 seconds, with a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour.

The Shark boasts a 29.58 kWh battery, offering an all-electric NEDC range of 100 km. The combined gasoline-electric NEDC range reaches 840 kilometers. BYD also claims a fuel consumption of 7.5 liters per 100 km.

BYD Shark Interior and Safety Features

The BYD Shark’s interior features a driver-centric layout with a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster, a large 12.8-inch central touchscreen for infotainment, and a futuristic 12-inch head-up display (HUD). Compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ensures seamless smartphone integration.

Dimensionally, the pickup measures 5,457 mm long, 1,971 mm wide, and 1,925 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,260 mm.

For enhanced safety and visibility, the pickup is equipped with a 360° panoramic camera system and a 180° rear camera. This combination provides a comprehensive 540° panoramic view, reducing blind spots.

The BYD Shark marks the automaker’s entry into the mid-size pickup truck segment, initially targeting markets outside of China.
