BMW Motorrad, the luxury two-wheeler division of the German automotive giant, has made a grand entry into the Indian electric scooter market with its flagship model, the CE 04. Launched on Wednesday, this futuristic scooter is not only the first electric offering from BMW in India but also commands a hefty price tag of Rs 14.90 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most expensive scooter in the country.
The CE 04 is a testament to BMW’s commitment to blending luxury, technology, and sustainability. Its sleek design, coupled with cutting-edge features, sets it apart from the competition. The scooter boasts a 10.25-inch TFT color screen, offering riders a digital cockpit packed with information and entertainment options. Built-in navigation and connectivity ensure riders stay connected on the go.
Performance enthusiasts will be impressed by the CE 04’s electric powertrain. Equipped with an 8.9 kWh battery, it delivers a peak power output of 41 bhp and a maximum torque of 62 Nm. These figures translate to a thrilling acceleration of 0 to 50 kmph in just 2.6 seconds. While the top speed is electronically limited to 120 kmph, it’s more than enough for Indian road conditions. BMW claims a range of 130 km on a full charge, making it suitable for daily commutes and short trips.
Safety is a paramount concern for BMW, and the CE 04 reflects this commitment. It comes equipped with essential safety features like traction control, ABS, and electronic reverse assist. Full LED lighting ensures excellent visibility in various lighting conditions.
The CE 04 is more than just a mode of transport; it’s a statement of luxury and eco-consciousness. With its premium build quality, advanced features, and electric powertrain, BMW has undoubtedly raised the bar for electric scooters in India. However, the high price tag will undoubtedly limit its appeal to a niche audience.
Deliveries for the BMW CE 04 are scheduled to commence from September 2024. It remains to be seen if this electric marvel can capture the hearts of Indian consumers and create a new benchmark for the electric two-wheeler segment.
