Up to Rs 56 Lakh Off: Range Rover Now Locally Assembled in India

Range Rover

JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) has begun assembling its flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs in India using CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits. This shift to local assembly significantly reduces taxes on these vehicles, leading to a substantial drop in their ex-showroom prices. The full-size Range Rover can now be up to Rs 56 lakh cheaper.

Selected Variants Get Assembled in India

While previously very few could afford a full-size Range Rover in India, local assembly makes it somewhat more accessible. JLR’s manufacturing plant in Chakan, near Pune, now assembles both the Range Rover and the smaller Range Rover Sport.

Price Reductions and Local Assembly Details

The locally assembled Land Rover Range Rover can see price reductions of up to Rs 56 lakh, while the Range Rover Sport is expected to be Rs 29 lakh cheaper. JLR’s Pune plant already assembles the Range Rover Evoque, Velar, Land Discovery Sport, and Jaguar F-Pace.

Limited CKD Availability

It’s important to note that not all variants of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are assembled in India. Currently, only the 3.0-liter LWB Autobiography petrol and 3.0-liter LWB HSE diesel variants of the full-size Range Rover are assembled locally. For the Range Rover Sport, only the 3.0-liter petrol and diesel Dynamic SE variants are assembled in India. All other variants will continue to be imported as Completely Built Units (CBUs) from the Solihull factory in the United Kingdom.

Delivery Timeline

Deliveries of the locally assembled Range Rover Sport will begin on August 16, while the locally assembled Range Rover’s delivery date is yet to be announced. Both vehicles will be showcased at Land Rover House in Alibaug, Maharashtra.

Expected Price Reductions After Local Assembly

Previously, the Land Rover Range Rover 3.0L diesel LWB HSE cost Rs 2.80 crore and the 3.0L petrol LWB Autobiography cost Rs 3.16 crore. Local assembly is expected to bring the price of the 3.0-liter diesel LWB HSE down to Rs 2.36 crore and the 3.0-liter petrol LWB Autobiography down to Rs 2.60 crore. These SUVs compete with the Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7, and Land Rover Defender 130.

Price Reductions for Range Rover Sport

The 3.0-liter petrol and diesel variants of the Range Rover Sport’s Dynamic SE trim were previously priced at Rs 1.69 crore. Local assembly should reduce their price to around Rs 1.40 crore. This puts them in competition with the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, and Porsche Cayenne.
