Mazda has unveiled the 2025 BT-50 midsize pickup at the Motor Expo in Thailand, showcasing significant updates, including a new diesel engine and transmission. Borrowing technology from its Isuzu D-Max counterpart, the revamped BT-50 offers enhanced power and torque, particularly in its entry-level variants.
The centerpiece of the upgrade is the introduction of a turbocharged 2.2-liter MaxForce four-cylinder diesel engine. This powerplant produces 161 hp (120 kW / 163 PS) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, marking a noticeable improvement over the outgoing 1.9-liter turbodiesel by 13 hp (10 kW) and 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).
Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission or a newly developed eight-speed automatic gearbox. The latter promises smoother shifts and improved fuel efficiency compared to the older six-speed automatic.
Additionally, the BT-50 retains the option of a 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine, delivering 187 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. This engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission and is available in both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and four-wheel-drive (4WD) configurations. The 4WD models are equipped with a rear differential lock and an off-road driving mode for enhanced terrain handling.
Visually, the 2025 BT-50 features a redesigned front end, highlighted by the largest Mazda emblem ever seen on one of its production vehicles. New LED headlights enhance its contemporary look, aligning the pickup’s styling more closely with Mazda’s passenger car lineup.
Customers can choose from five exterior colors, including three new options: Red Earth Metallic, Geode White Pearl, and Sailing Blue Metallic. The updated model also boasts fresh alloy wheel designs, available in 17-inch and 18-inch sizes.
Inside the cabin, a modern 7-inch digital instrument cluster pairs with an 8-inch or 9-inch infotainment display, depending on the trim level. The BT-50 now comes with additional advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including a Rear Cross Traffic Brake system for added safety.
Manufactured in Thailand, the 2025 Mazda BT-50 is already available for order. Pricing begins at ฿762,000 ($22,100) for the entry-level Free Style Cab with the 2.2-liter RWD configuration and peaks at ฿1,352,000 ($39,200) for the top-spec double cab equipped with the 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine and 4WD.
