Tata Nexon Races Past 7 Lakh Sales Mark, Celebrates with Discounts

Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon is one of the most diverse products in the Indian car market with its variety of powertrain options, including all-electric ones, and its variants. The sub-4 million SUV has crossed the impressive Rs 700,000 sales mark in the seven years since its launch in 2017. To celebrate this special occasion, Tata is also offering discounts of up to Rs 100,000 on the new Nexon, valid till June 30, 2024.

Nexon Sales Milestones

The Tata Nexon was launched in 2017 with a unique design for the small SUV sector. Since then, the popularity of the small SUV segment has continued to grow and the Nexon is battling for supremacy in the segment with brands like the Maruti Brezza and the Hyundai Venue. While the first 100,000 units were sold in just over two years, the last 100,000 units took just 7 months to sell out. It is worth noting that the milestone achieved by Nexon also includes the demand for the all-electric Nexon EV.

Nexon Special Offer

Special discounts of up to ₹ 1 lakh on the Tata Nexon vary depending on the variant you choose. It is available to those who have already booked one and are awaiting delivery, as well as those making new bookings and those looking to upgrade their old Nexon to a new one.

Explaining the popularity of the Nexon

The Tata Nexon has been updated multiple times with modern features and received its most comprehensive redesign in 2023 with a full-blown facelift. In its current form, it features a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a 9-speaker audio system.

In 2018, Tata set the new benchmark for Indian small SUVs in terms of safety with a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP. Since then, the Nexon’s safety package has been improved and now includes six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC) as standard, while the top-end variants also get a 360-degree camera. The safety capabilities were proven again in 2024 with a 5-star safety rating as per the updated Global NCAP protocols. Now, the Nexon EV has also received a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP.

Plenty of options to choose from: Nexon units

The Tata Nexon has always been offered with a choice of either a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine or a 1.5-litre diesel engine, both of which have been updated over time to improve driving characteristics and compliance with waiver norms. The biggest changes are in the transmission options, with the diesel unit offering the option of a manual or AMT gearbox. Today, the Nexon turbo petrol engine offers 4 transmission options – 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, 6-speed AMT and 7-speed DCT.

In 2020, the Nexon became the first viable electric vehicle option for Indians – the Nexon EV. It offered a range of over 300 km at a starting price of less than Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). Since then, Tata has had an overwhelming share in the electric car segment in India with its range of affordable electric vehicles, which also includes the Tata Tiago EV and the Tata Punch EV. The Nexon EV itself has been updated over time with a modern design, premium features and even a larger battery that promises a range of over 280 miles. Details are listed below:

Specifications: Tata Nexon EV

  • Battery Size: 30kWh/40.5kWh
  • Power: 129 PS/144 HP
  • Torque: 215 Nm
  • Claimed Range: 325 km/465 km

The Nexon’s powertrain diversity will further increase with the planned introduction of CNG fuel. It will use the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, a first in the market, and might even have the option of an AMT. The Tata Nexon CNG will be a direct competitor to the Maruti Brezza CNG.

Tata Nexon Price

The Tata Nexon has been the best-selling SUV in the country for three consecutive years and despite its high safety coefficient and extensive feature list, it is competitively priced.

  • Tata Nexon: 8 Lakh to 15.80 Lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi)
  • Tata Nexon EV: 14.49 Lakh to 19.49 Lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi)

While the Tata Nexon is clearly a best-seller across all its variants, it would be remiss not to mention that the automaker needs to work on improving the customer experience and product reliability before it can be easily recommended to potential buyers.
