Mercedes-Benz India has initiated a recall of over 2,500 recently sold C-Class and E-Class vehicles due to a potential software flaw in the engine control unit (ECU). The issue, if left unaddressed, could lead to a sudden loss of power, increasing the risk of accidents.
The problem stems from a discrepancy between the ECU’s software and the latest specifications. Specifically, when the vehicle transitions out of “sailing mode” (a fuel-saving feature), the fuel injection system may unexpectedly shut down, causing the car to lose propulsion without any prior warning.
The recall impacts three C-Class vehicles produced between late August and late October 2021. A significantly larger number, 2,543 units, of the E-Class, manufactured from late April 2022 to mid-August 2024, are also affected.

Mercedes-Benz will contact owners of the identified vehicles directly, and the necessary software update to rectify the ECU issue will be performed at no cost to the customer. This proactive measure aims to ensure the safety and reliability of the affected vehicles.
