The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance has finally arrived in the US, roughly 18 months after its European debut. While official pricing hasn’t been released, it’s expected to sit at the top of the GT 4-Door Coupe lineup, above the GT 43 and GT 53, which are priced from $101,100 and $112,000, respectively.
The visual updates are subtle. The most noticeable change is the revised front grille, featuring a gloss black lower section, resembling black lipstick. The large air intakes of the previous model have been replaced with more refined intakes, similar to those found on the second-generation two-door AMG GT Coupe.

The core of the car remains unchanged. It still uses AMG’s potent 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, now paired with an electric motor. The electric motor adds 201 hp and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm), boosting the total output to a remarkable 831 hp and 1,032 lb-ft (1,399 Nm). This power surpasses even the BMW M5.

The hybrid V8 works in conjunction with a fully variable all-wheel-drive system and a nine-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain allows the sedan to reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in a mere 2.8 seconds and achieve an electronically limited top speed of 197 mph (317 km/h). Like its predecessor, it remains a plug-in hybrid, featuring a 4.8 kWh battery pack for a limited electric-only range.

Despite the general slowdown in plug-in hybrid sales, the GT 63 S E Performance offers an interesting feature: a four-stage brake regeneration system. This system includes a one-pedal driving mode, similar to an electric vehicle, and can recover up to 100 kW of energy for the battery.

Inside, the cabin receives minor updates, including revised AMG-specific displays on the MBUX infotainment system. An AMG Performance steering wheel is now standard across the entire range.
