Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, has announced a reduction in prices for select variants of its popular S-Presso and Alto K10 models. This move comes amid growing inventory concerns in the automobile industry and a decline in overall sales.
Effective from September 2, 2024, the price of the S-Presso LXI Petrol has been reduced by ₹2,000. The Alto K10 VXI Petrol has also seen a price cut of ₹6,500. The Alto K10 range is now priced between ₹3.99 lakh and ₹5.96 lakh (ex-showroom).
Maruti Suzuki’s total vehicle sales for August 2024 declined by 3.9% compared to the same period last year. The company sold 181,782 units in August 2024, down from 189,082 units in August 2023.
Domestic sales of Maruti Suzuki vehicles fell to 145,570 units in August 2024 from 156,114 units in August 2023. The decline was primarily driven by a significant drop in the mini and compact segments, where sales decreased from 84,660 units to 68,699 units.
The price reductions for the S-Presso and Alto K10 are likely aimed at boosting sales and clearing inventory as the company faces challenges in the competitive Indian automobile market.
