The wait is almost over for Mahindra Thar fans! Leaked images provide a first glimpse of the highly anticipated five-door Thar, expected to debut on August 15th, 2024. Nicknamed the Thar Armada, these images showcase the SUV’s fascia, side profile, and a new, darker shade of red.
Fresh Design with Familiar Cues
The leaked photos confirm a new design for the Thar family. The signature circular headlights retain their form but gain LED lighting and C-shaped DRLs. A fresh six-slat grille distinguishes the five-door from its three-door sibling. The second image reveals design elements carried over from the three-door Thar, including latch design, traditional door handles, and large wing mirrors with Thar branding.
Expected Feature Upgrades
Mahindra is expected to equip the five-door Thar with a significantly upgraded feature list. Potential additions include a 360-degree camera (spotted in the leaks), climate control with rear vents, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, Level-2 ADAS, powered and ventilated front seats, and a split-folding second row for increased cargo space.
Powertrain and Competition
The Thar Armada is likely to share its powertrains with the three-door model – a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel, both offered with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. Mahindra’s proven 4WD system, already tested by CarWale Off-road Day in 2023, is also expected to be available.
This five-door Thar positions itself strategically. Priced similarly to the XUV700 and Scorpio N, it could potentially steal sales from both with its unique off-road appeal. Additionally, it will compete with SUVs like the MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar, and the Force Gurkha five-door.
This leak offers an exciting glimpse into the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door. Stay tuned for the official reveal on August 15th for a complete picture of this highly anticipated SUV.
