After achieving great success with its three-door model, the upcoming five-door Mahindra Thar is expected to launch on August 15, 2024. New spy images reveal the interior of the Thar 5 Door ahead of its release.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door: A Family-Friendly Option
The five-door Thar is designed to be more practical, offering an alternative to the typical unibody compact SUV. While some Thar buyers prioritize the off-road capability, others are drawn to the rugged looks and commanding presence. The five doors provide the practicality of a traditional SUV, making it more family-friendly.
Spy Photos Showcase Increased Features
Recent spy photos captured the interior of the Thar 5 Door near the Sandeep Foundation in Nashik, Maharashtra. These images confirm the car’s transformation into a genuine family SUV and a strong competitor to traditional unibody SUVs.
Enhanced Comfort and Features
The Mahindra Thar 5 Door boasts a significant increase in features compared to its predecessor. The focus on comfort and equipment is evident with the addition of a front center armrest, a rear bench seat with a center armrest, rear air vents, and a usable luggage compartment. The rear legroom appears generous, comparable to a compact SUV.
Technological Advancements
The 5-door Thar comes equipped with a larger, 10.2-inch standalone touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.2-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a chunky steering wheel reminiscent of the Scorpio N and XUV700, a sunroof, Level-2 ADAS features, push-button start, automatic headlights, and rain-sensing wipers.
Exterior and Powertrain Expectations
The 5-door Thar is expected to have a longer wheelbase, two additional doors, and slight modifications to the dashboard. New LED projector headlamps are included, and the updated dashboard might be carried over to the facelifted 3-door Thar as well. Mahindra is likely to equip the 5-door Thar with rear disc brakes and 255-profile CEAT Crossdrive A/T tires, as seen in recent spy photos.
The powertrain options are expected to remain the same as the existing Thar. The base variant might come with a 1.5-liter rear-wheel drive diesel engine and a manual gearbox, with a starting price around Rs 12 lakh due to its smaller size compared to the base Scorpio N. The other two engine options include the 2.0-litre turbo petrol and the 2.2-litre diesel engine from the current Thar. The 5-door Thar will compete with the 2024 Force Gurkha and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
