Chery Unveils New KP11 Pickup Concept with Global Ambitions

Chery KP11

Chinese automaker Chery has quietly introduced an exciting new pickup concept, which could be released globally as early as next year, transitioning into a full production model. Although specific details about the vehicle are scarce, the reveal has generated interest, especially in regions with a strong demand for affordable midsize trucks.

The prototype, known as the Chery KP11, was showcased during the 2024 Chery International User Summit held in Wuhu, China. Interestingly, Chery chose not to promote the concept through its usual social media platforms, leaving summit attendees as the main source of information. This move stands out in a digital-focused era, particularly when launching a model with such worldwide appeal.

Images shared by outlets like the Philippines-based AutoIndustriya provide a close look at the Chery KP11. The vehicle, with its blacked-out windows, appears to be a static prototype, lacking an interior or mechanical components. However, its exterior design seems nearly ready for production, indicating that the final version may closely resemble the prototype.

At the front, the KP11 features a large grille with bold “CHERY” lettering in dark grey, accompanied by split LED headlights and a rugged bumper with an aluminum-style skid plate. The side profile is robust, with chunky fenders, boxy wheel arches, all-terrain tires, and ample ground clearance. The exterior’s color bears a resemblance to the Blue Lightning shade of the Ford Ranger Raptor, which also seems to have influenced the side steps integrated into the rear bumper.

The rear design shows more Ford inspiration, particularly in the LED taillights. However, the oversized “CHERY” lettering on the tailgate serves as a reminder of the truck’s Chinese roots. Enhancing its adventurous appeal, the prototype is equipped with camping gear such as a bed rack and rooftop tent, hinting at its potential as an overlanding vehicle.

Reports suggest the Chery KP11 will offer a range of powertrain options, including a turbocharged 2.4-liter gasoline engine, along with plug-in hybrid and range-extender variants, but there will be no diesel engine.

Chinese media have indicated that the global debut of this pickup could take place next year. It is expected to launch in markets across Asia-Pacific, South America, and Europe, but not in North America.

The KP11 is likely to compete in the midsize pickup segment, going head-to-head with established models like the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, Kia Tasman, VW Amarok, Fiat Titano, Chevy S10, and the Chinese-made GWM Cannon Ute and BYD Shark.

Australian media outlet Carsauce, through a video by Jacob Brooke, has confirmed that the KP11 will also be entering the Australian market, adding another strong contender to an already competitive field.
