Triumph is expanding its popular 400cc motorcycle range with a new café racer model, widely speculated to be named the Thruxton 400. This upcoming motorcycle has been repeatedly seen undergoing testing near Bajaj Auto’s production facility in Chakan, where Triumph’s 400cc bikes are manufactured. Recent images, captured by automotive journalist Rohit Paradkar, show the test mule completely camouflaged in black.
The Thruxton 400’s design showcases a prominent front fairing, incorporating an apron and windscreen, which is expected to house a circular headlamp. This styling element pays homage to the classic café racers of the 1960s. The rest of the motorcycle’s silhouette closely mirrors the Speed 400, featuring a floating tail section with a ribbed single-piece seat, a grab rail, an upward-swept exhaust, and a teardrop-shaped fuel tank. True to café racer aesthetics, the bike will feature low-set clip-on handlebars and slightly rearward-positioned foot pegs for a sporty riding stance.

In terms of hardware, the Thruxton 400 is expected to share its components with the Speed 400. This includes upside-down front forks, a rear monoshock, and single disc brakes with dual-channel ABS. The test mule was observed with 17-inch alloy wheels and Pirelli Rosso tires internationally, but the Indian version is likely to be fitted with locally sourced MRF or Apollo tires.
The Thruxton 400 will be powered by the same 398cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine found in the other 400cc Triumph models. This engine delivers 39.5 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 37.5 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm in the Speed 400. Power will be managed by a six-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch.
