KTM India has intensified its excitement for its upcoming 2025 model year motorcycles. While bookings are already open for the 390 Adventure S and Enduro R, spy shots of the 390 SMC R have surfaced, hinting at a potential Indian launch.
The 390 SMC R, unveiled alongside its adventure siblings at EICMA 2024, is poised to be a game-changer in the Indian market. As the first sub-500cc supermoto, it would carve a unique niche between the popular 390 Duke and the adventure-focused 390 Adventure S.
Spy Shots Reveal EICMA-Spec Design:
The test mule spotted on Indian roads closely mirrors the 390 SMC R showcased at the Milan Motor Show. Key features include 17-inch wire-spoke wheels, likely to be offered in a tubeless configuration.
A Measured Approach to Launch:
While the 390 Adventure models are set for an imminent launch, KTM is taking a more cautious approach with the 390 SMC R. The company is closely monitoring customer response and market demand before a final decision on an Indian launch is made.
Engine and Performance:
The 390 SMC R shares its 399cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with the 390 Duke, delivering 45.3 bhp and 39 Nm of torque. However, KTM is expected to fine-tune the gearing for optimized supermoto performance.
Supermoto Versatility:
True to its nature, the 390 SMC R is designed to excel on a variety of surfaces, including roads, dirt tracks, and even flat tracks. This versatility is a defining characteristic of the supermoto category.
Expected Price and Availability:
If launched, the 390 SMC R is expected to be priced competitively, starting around Rs 3.30 lakh (ex-showroom). While the 390 Adventure models are slated for an immediate launch, the 390 SMC R’s arrival in India is likely to occur in the second quarter of 2025.
